Today while driving around I heard a song come on the radio and immediately assumed it was Madonna's "Express Yourself". After listening to the lryics for a little while, I realized it was Lady Gaga's newest single, "Born this way". As soon as I got home, I began to do some comparitive work. Both are around the same tempo with a strong driven 4/4 beat, both are in very similar keys, if not the same, both start out with a spoken intro, and in my opinion, they sound all-around similar. Odd coincidences? or is Lady Gaga trying to revive the past for her own benefit? Weigh in below and check out the links to both songs! What do you think?

gaga is a rip off of everybody lol my friend had an article the other day on how she stole the ziggy stardust look from david bowie
ReplyDeletei wacthed an interview and gaga said madonna is just a inspiration
ReplyDeleteI am really not into Gaga at this point. I don't find her creative, just sensational. I guess it's always to each his own though.
ReplyDeleteLol I wrote that blog about GaGa/ Ziggy Stardust, and it seems GaGa is just rehashing things that have worked in previous decades and mashing it all together to make one "super artist". Her music is pretty crappy but damn it's catchy.
ReplyDeleteWell their both pop singers, so it's not that big of a deal, right?
ReplyDeleteEh I dont really think she copied. Maybe inspiration, but not coppying
ReplyDeleteI gotta agree with Ramsay, it's really crappy but super catchy. But that's all today's music is, so far anyways. I've yet to see quality with these new artists. I'm sure I'm just not looking hard enough. I'm going to have to check this out though.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that she was inspired by Madonna. Either way, I can't stand Lady Gaga. She seems to be more influenced by Marilyn Manson than anyone in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think was definitely inspired by Madonna, a rip off no.
ReplyDeleteI think its just inspiration
ReplyDeleteThere's a fantastic Cracked.com article discussing how Lady Gaga is exactly 50% Madonna and 50% Marilyn Manson. You should give it a look-over.
ReplyDeleteI don't care either way, I love Gaga :D
ReplyDeleteI liked it when Lady Gaga was in an egg
ReplyDeleteThey are probably employed by the same company with different names, like all the corps now a days...
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the world of pop music and general musical malnourishment! haha!
ReplyDeletegaga dresses like and egg right?
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure both of them are somewhat similar in terms of how they represent themselves.
ReplyDeleteEveryone rips of everyone. "inspiration"
ReplyDeletei've been thinking that gaga is trying to be the next madonna. I completely understand what you mean by the songs sounding similar.
ReplyDeletedon´t like gaga more a madonna fan gaga just fails in my eyes
ReplyDeleteSomeone copied madona but it wasn´t gaga!
ReplyDeleteFollowing ;)
Every female popstar copies Madonna these days. That's because Madonna is truly talented and everyone else just tries to move like her, look like her and sing like her.
ReplyDeleteI think madonna inspired Gaga in this sense. They aren't very similar though, they definitely have different styles and viewpoints.

So long as Gaga loses, I don't really care O_O
ReplyDeleteGaga tries too hard to be the Madonna of today's age.
ReplyDeleteShe held some form of interest in her earlier days, but now most of GaGa's music just comes across as factory line pop.
ReplyDeletemadonnas better than gaga anyway.
ReplyDeleteGaga isn't even half as close to Madonna, it seems like she's trying to copy her way into the mainstream. There must be a reason they sound similar

ReplyDeleteGaga is sort of like kesha, trying too hard. She was good at start now she kinda lost her flavour maybe. We'll see how it goes. mouse!

I have no idea if she did but they are similar.
ReplyDeletethere is no such thing as orginality anymore, or atleast it's VERY rare
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing new under the sun, as they say. Everyone copies everyone else. So long as people buy the mp3's and buy concert tickets, that's all most care about.
ReplyDeleterather than no, lol..keep post.
